It's World Kindness day on Friday! This day was first started in 1998 with the goal of making the world a better place through acts of kindness. It's a chance to see past your own lives and thoughts, and focus on others, whether that is your family, friend, colleague, or even a complete stranger! A little kindness can go a long way, and it can definitely brighten up someone's day!
This year we need to be creative and think outside-the-box. We can't let the current social distancing measures stop us from spreading some positivity in the world - especially when the world needs it the most! Here are 3 acts of kindness that you can do from the comfort (and safety) of your home for people around you!
Check in on your family, friends, or coworkers!
With social distancing measures, everyone is missing some socialization in their lives and may feel isolated. Send a message, or better yet, call and check in on them! It can be a simple 'good morning' message to help kickoff their day on a good note, or ask how things are going in their lives. Be present and listen!
Surprise them with a gift!
A small silver lining to this pandemic - we have technology to help keep us connected! There are so many gift options that you can send virtually to someone such as virtual hugs, cards, and even flowers! You can also send someone a gift card to their favorite coffee shop! When purchasing gift cards, consider getting one to a local store or restaurant to spread kindness to both small businesses and the lucky recipient!
Our personal favourite to celebrate birthdays at Purposely: a surprise delivery! With food delivery apps such as DoorDash and SkipTheDishes, it's easy to treat someone to coffee, a snack, or a meal. This also helps support local businesses!
Volunteer virtually!
Nonprofits and charities give selflessly everyday. Take this chance to show them the kindness they deserve! Donate to a local nonprofit or cause! If you don't have the funds to donate, volunteer! Volunteering has a dollar value too! Many volunteer centres are offering virtual volunteer opportunities - find opportunities near you. If you can't seem to find the perfect opportunity, we can help! We're building the solution to bring the best volunteer opportunities to you. Sign-up for our newsletter here to be the first to know when it launches!
We challenge you to do 5 random acts of kindness for other people this week! Share them with us on Twitter or Instagram and tag #BePurposely! We would love to see and share your acts of kindness with our community!
