When crafting your corporate volunteering program, you have to be adaptable to every team's schedule. Some employees can carve out a full day to give back. Others have an hour between meetings. Some prefer mornings, others afternoons. Now, a single volunteering event on Purposely can work for all of them.

Today, we're introducing Shifts, a new way to structure volunteering events that gives your team the flexibility to participate in the way that works best for them.

What Are Shifts?

When creating a volunteering event on Purposely, coordinators can now toggle on Add shifts to this event to divide the day into multiple time slots, each with its own start time, end time, and number of available spots.

For example, a single event at a local food bank could include:

  • morning shift from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • An afternoon shift from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Adding Shifts in Purposely

Each shift is independently managed, so you can cap spots per slot, track who's signed up for what, and make sure the nonprofit has the right number of volunteers throughout the day.

How It Works

Setting up shifts is straightforward. When building your event, flip on the shifts toggle and start adding time slots. Set the start and end time for each shift, assign a spot limit, and add as many shifts as the event calls for. Reorder them, remove them, or adjust them at any time before publishing.

Signing up is just as easy for participants. When an employee opens the event, they'll see all available shifts laid out clearly — with spot availability shown in real time. They can select the shift that fits their schedule and confirm their spot in one tap. And if plans change? They can update or cancel anytime.

Why It Matters

Shifts make it possible to run a bigger, more inclusive volunteering day without overloading a nonprofit partner or limiting who can participate. More of your team gets to show up at the time that works best for them.

Ready to try it? Create a new volunteering event on Purposely and turn on shifts to get started.
