Volunteering looks different for every team. Some companies spend an afternoon gardening at their local seniors centre. Others partner with a food bank on a Tuesday and make it a quarterly tradition. Some rally their entire organization around a series of events for Pride Month. Others run a month-long giving campaign that lets employees support the causes closest to them. All of it counts. All of it matters.
Today, Purposely is expanding to hold space for all of it, introducing Community Actions, a new event type designed for flexible, longer-horizon volunteering initiatives.
What Are Community Actions?
When creating a new event on Purposely, you'll now see two options:
- Single Events: structured, date-and-time-based events for in-person or virtual shifts
- Community Actions: flexible initiatives that unfold over a longer period of time, with no fixed date required

Community Actions are built for things like:
- Drives: collecting donations, supplies, or sign-ups over days or weeks
- A-thons: read-a-thons, walk-a-thons, or any participation-based challenge tied to a cause
- Themed Campaigns: awareness months, volunteering weeks, or moment-based initiatives like Earth Month
- Open Community Campaigns: initiatives where participants can support any organization of their choosing
How It Works
Creating a Community Action is simple. From the event creation flow, select Community Action as your event type, then set up your campaign page.
You'll have two options for how participation is structured:
- Single Organization: rally your community around one specific nonprofit or cause
- Any Organization: open it up and let participants support whichever organization speaks to them
For example, an Earth Day campaign could invite employees or community members to log clean-ups at parks, beaches, or neighbourhoods of their choice, each supporting a local environmental organization they care about, all tracked and celebrated in one place on Purposely.

Available Now
Community Actions is available to all Purposely users today. Head to the event creation flow to launch your first one!
